I love theory. I love to learn about theory, and discuss the ways that different theories might inform how we approach a particular case. As both a therapist and a supervisor, I am less prone to offer advice, and more prone to try and help you think through different possible ways to deal with a situation, so that you can move forward in confidence that you have reached a thoughtful and intentional treatment choice.

Some of the areas in which I have particular experience and passion are trauma, addiction, shame resilience, and spirituality. While I certainly would not impose my faith on a client or supervisee, I do believe it is important to share that I operate from a Christian perspective, which is foundational for my understandings of what is true about hope and redemption and the possibility of change.

During my own supervision experience, I worked with a supervisor who operated out of a very different worldview and treatment perspective than my own. For me, this was enriching and helped push me to perpetually view the world and my clients through a different lens. The challenge was that perhaps I didn’t delve as deeply as I might have into the approaches I ultimately use the most. As you look for a supervisor I would encourage you to seek a balance of similarities and differences, so that you can get a good mix of challenge and depth. My tendency as a therapist is to be forward looking, and utilize interventions that are oriented more to the future than the past. That said, understanding the client history – particularly attachment and trauma – is a critical element in developing an effective treatment plan, and part of what our case discussions would certainly include.

My experience is primarily with adults, and if your focus is working with children and adolescents, I would probably not be the best fit for your training. I work with individuals, couples, and groups, and believe I can offer strong guidance and support in your growth in those areas. I do work with children and adolescents utilizing neurofeedback and other biofeedback modalites. If you are interested in learning more about that modality or potentially utilizing it in your practice, I would be happy to discuss it with you as part of your supervision.
