What if chronic fatigue, anxiety, or inattention weren’t just “in your head”—but rooted in what’s circulating in your bloodstream or stored in your tissues?
Environmental toxins and nutrient deficiencies can silently disrupt brain chemistry, hormone regulation, and cellular energy. And yet, they’re rarely measured in standard lab panels.
The Toxic and Essential Elements Test from Mosaic Diagnostics offers a deeper look at two critical aspects of your biochemistry:
-
Toxic heavy metals that may be interfering with brain and body function
-
Essential nutrient elements that are needed for mood, focus, energy, and resilience
At Cypress Counseling & Wellness, we offer this panel to clients navigating persistent mental health symptoms—especially when traditional interventions haven’t brought full relief.
What Is the Heavy Metals & Nutrients Test?
This non-invasive urine-based test measures 20+ elements, including both harmful toxic metals and critical nutritional minerals. It helps uncover imbalances that may be contributing to:
-
Brain fog or memory issues
-
Mood swings, anxiety, or irritability
-
Fatigue or poor stress tolerance
-
ADHD-like symptoms in children and adults
-
Weak detox capacity or poor recovery from illness
Toxic elements like mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium are assessed using a post-provocation method (using DMSA or DMPS) or unprovoked urine, depending on clinical context.
Essential elements—such as magnesium, zinc, lithium, and selenium—are also measured to identify depletions that may affect neurotransmitters, mitochondria, or hormone balance.
Why Toxins and Nutrients Matter for Mental Health
Even low-level exposure to heavy metals can affect cognitive function and emotional regulation:
-
Lead has been linked to impaired executive function and increased impulsivity—even at blood levels once considered safe.
-
Mercury exposure (including from fish or dental amalgams) can affect memory, mood, and fine motor coordination.
-
Arsenic and cadmium have both been associated with increased oxidative stress and disrupted endocrine function.
At the same time, nutrient depletion can make the brain more vulnerable. Magnesium and zinc, for example, play essential roles in calming the nervous system, supporting serotonin production, and reducing inflammation.
Without these micronutrients in balance, even low toxin levels may hit harder.
What Does the Test Measure?
The Mosaic Diagnostics panel includes:
âś… Toxic Heavy Metals:
-
Lead (Pb)
-
Mercury (Hg)
-
Arsenic (As)
-
Cadmium (Cd)
-
Aluminum (Al)
-
Antimony, Bismuth, Nickel, Tin, Thallium, Uranium, etc.
âś… Essential Nutrients:
-
Magnesium
-
Zinc
-
Selenium
-
Lithium (trace)
-
Manganese
-
Copper
-
Molybdenum, Chromium, Vanadium, etc.
This combination provides both a risk map and a resilience snapshot—revealing where your body might be burdened or under-resourced.
Who Might Benefit from Testing?
This panel is ideal for clients who are experiencing:
-
Persistent fatigue, despite sleep and lifestyle interventions
-
Cognitive fog or memory challenges, particularly after illness or stress
-
Mood instability, irritability, or panic episodes without clear cause
-
ADHD or sensory sensitivities, especially in kids
-
History of high fish consumption, old dental fillings, or known environmental exposure (e.g., well water, pesticides, industrial areas)
It’s also useful when nutrient testing through bloodwork is inconclusive—since urine reveals excretion patterns, not just static serum levels.
How We Use the Results
Once your test is complete, our team walks through the findings in a clear, non-overwhelming way. Depending on your results, we may recommend:
-
Targeted nutrient repletion through food or supplements
-
Lifestyle-based detox support, like sauna, hydration, or binders
-
Collaborative care with your primary provider if provocation or chelation is indicated
-
Adjustments to your brain health protocolsÂ
We’ll never hand you a list of problems without a plan. Our goal is always clarity, not fear.
What the Research Tells Us
-
Lead exposure—even at low levels—has been linked to poorer executive function in children and adults
-
Mercury can impair memory, mood, and motor skills, especially in sensitive individuals
-
Magnesium and zinc are consistently associated with reduced anxiety and improved sleep quality in both children and adults
While not diagnostic on their own, these findings support what we see in practice: toxins and deficiencies often go hand in hand with emotional dysregulation and cognitive strain.
